Three Bear Trap bindery gets its name from my parent's farm in Vermont. On a century old sugar maple hung a sign "Three Bear Traps".

In 1987 while studying at Hampshire College, I was encouraged to take a tutorial with Leonard Baskin. This was a wonderful opportunity to work one on one with the master artist and founder of the Gehenna press. He encouraged me to study and apprentice with area artisans in, letterpress printing, printmaking, and bookbinding.

In 1990, I was invited to share space at Bill Streeter’s Silver Maple bindery. During that time I worked on book restoration and fine press editions, many for Michael Kuch’s Double Elephant Press.

In 1998 I opened my own studio in the Old National Felt building on West Street in Northampton.

In that same year I became the lead designer for Kolo. I have consulted with them since their founding, overseeing the color palette, new products and marketing.

In 2010 I moved my studio downtown to the old Chilsons building, now the newly renovated "YES" building.

My studio currently specializes in fine press edition binding, one of a kind custom leather bindings and book related product design.
